The Shanghai International Expo 2010 is one of the most important tourism expos in which the UAE participates each year, says Obaid Al Jarwan, Deputy Chairman of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) and second Deputy chairperson at the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The UAE pavilion at the Shanghai Expo reflects the countrys past and present achievements, as well as the continuous development in its tourism sector, and its vast heritage.


The Sharjah delegation consisted of H.E. Saeed Obaid Al Jarwan, H.E. Mohamed A. Al Noman, SCTDA Director General, H.E. Ali Salem Al Mahmoud, Director General of the Sharjah Economic Development Department, and H.E. Marwan Al Sarkal, CEO of the Qasba Development Authority.


In their tour of the Shanghai Expo, the Sharjah delegation visited numerous other stands, including that of the Middle East, where delegation members met with various representatives from other countries in the region to establish future cooperative work in the tourism sector and attract tourists and investors to the country.


Al Noman said of his countrys participation at the Shanghai International Expo: The Shanghai International Expo is one of the most influential events in the arenas of culture and economics, as it brings together the biggest companies and establishments from all over the globe to showcase their ideas, technologies and cultures.


The design of the UAEs stand is inspired by the countrys desert sands and beautiful landscapes, and gives a complete picture of the UAEs architectural and technological advances, as well as its distinctive modern and ancient heritage.


Meeting with other economic and tourism experts at the expo, we have come to determine which expertise can be exchanged, and drawn the outlines for the coming period. We are expecting significant advances in the promotion of Sharjahs tourism services within this same period, which will attract the worlds biggest tourism establishments, concluded Al Noman.


The UAEs participation in the Shanghai International Expo comes ahead of Sharjahs major participation at the 6th Beijing International Tourism Expo (BITE), one of the largest tourism conferences in the world, where 800 participants from 90 countries fill an area of 60,000 square feet, and which is expecting over 33,000 visitors this year.
