ATP-  Arab tourism portal- Indian carriers witnessed passenger numbers climb 29 percent to 6.7 million In July following a dip in fuel prices and discounted fares, said a report.

While IndiGo still had the highest control over market share with 35.8 percent, its rival SpiceJet retained the top spot in terms of passenger load factor that touched 93.4 percent in July, said a report in Times of India.

However, passenger load factor was still low compared to figures recorded in June, mainly on account of tourist season coming to an end, the report cited aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) as saying.

IndiGo carried the highest number of travelers in July, reporting as many as 2.4 million, while Air India ferried over 1 million and Jet Airways and Jet Lite together flew 1.5 million people.

In terms of passenger load factor or occupancy rate of seats, SpiceJet continued to be on top at 93.4 percent, while rival IndiGo clocked 78.4 percent in July. Compared with June, SpiceJet saw a marginal improvement from 93.2 percent whereas IndiGo witnessed a decline from 86.6 percent.

Air India also saw passenger load factor shoot up to 77.8 percent last month from 73.5 percent seen in June.
